Art Nouveau / Art Déco necklace in 18K white gold with diamonds (0.45ctw approx.), 1920s / 1930s
This amazing and incredibly elegant antique necklace is a beautiful example of a transitional jewel, having in fact been made between the 1920s and the 1930s, and more precisely between the Art Nouveau and Deco styles.
In fact, in the necklace we can find elements that come a little from both stylistic currents.
The upper central decoration was in fact made following the Art Nouveau style: the contours are sweet and graceful, and contain a delicate and soft openwork processing; the final appearance of this first part seems to be that of a stylized butterfly, whose "wings" are decorated with rosette-cut diamonds and at the center of which embraces an old-cut diamond.
Hanging from the butterfly we find two long and hanging elements, characterized by the fact that they are not the same length, which creates a sense of asymmetry that is not at all annoying but indeed very pleasant and refined.
These two elements are a strong reference to the Deco style, being in fact made with clear and precise lines; at their base we have two other old tagglio diamonds, while at the apex two rosette cut diamonds.
The old cut diamonds are each about 0.15ct, for an estimated total of 0.45ct.
The entire frame of the central decoration is in 18K white gold, as is the chain, which is directly connected to the pendant via two side rings.
