Antique 18K gold brooch depicting Diana the huntress on a cameo, early 1900s

Aggiungi alla Wishlist
This antique brooch, dating back to the early 1900s, is decorated with a cameo depicting the goddess Diana, and is made on a shell.

Diana is a goddess that we find in the Italic, Latin and Roman tradition and linked to the world of nature: she is the lady of the woods, protector of wild animals, keeper of springs and streams; but she is also the protector of women, to whom she ensured painless births, and the dispenser of sovereignty.
Often this Roman goddess corresponds to the goddess Artemis of Greek mythology. This Artemis-Diana connection reinforced Diana's image as the goddess of hunting, virginity, archery, the woods and the Moon.

In this ancient brooch the goddess is represented from behind and in the dress of a huntress: we see part of her face, while she is turning her head, and part of her back; her long wavy hair is gathered in a beautiful hairstyle, which particularly highlight her beautiful face. On the two sides we find the symbols that allow us to identify her as the goddess Diana: on the left we find a quiver with eight arrows inside, while on the right we find a bow.
The cameo, as mentioned, is made on a shell, and the frame that encloses it (as well as the needle) are entirely made of 18K yellow gold.
